SUn Egg No.7 (2024)

A public installation in the West Dean Gardens, as part of my time as Artist in Residence at West Dean College of Art and Craft.

A woven space from willow (known as the Sun Egg) that invites interaction, fascination and healing, as a way of helping us to reorientate our thinking to one of co-existence and collaboration. Creating affective moments that encourage the user to take time to understand the relations between living things in changing ecologies.

As part of the project ‘When I Am Among the Trees’

To be experienced from within

When the final willow ends are trimmed, all that is left to do, is lie down and soak in the view above. A moment of relief as my body sinks into the ground knowing that the weaving is complete, which is shortly followed by a moment of delight as the leaves begin to rustle in the wind. First encounters are an important part of my process and taking a moment to experience the view from within each archway means I’m now ready to invite others to share this space.
