Sun Egg No.2 (2021)

Public installation and community weaving of Sun Egg No.2 in Svabensverk as part of the ‘Det Finns I Skogen’ exhibition by Konstfrämjandet Gävleborg.

A woven space from willow (known as the Sun Egg) that invites interaction, fascination and healing, as a way of helping us to reorientate our thinking to one of co-existence and collaboration. Developed from the project ‘When I Am Among the Trees’ (2020).

The making of…

Made using freshly harvested willow from the Swedish island, Orust, I used the traditional craft technique of willow weaving as a way of building this large self-supporting installation. To be inside a woven structure, hints at an almost architectural way of thinking – an experience rather than just seeing.

The Sun Egg invites curiosity, active interactions and unexpected encounters with our natural environment. Creating multi-sensory experiences that encourage the user to take time to understand the relations between living things in changing ecologies.

(Inspired by Elsa Beskow’s story, ‘The Sun Egg’)

“How does a gathering become a ‘happening’ that is greater than a sum of its parts?”
