      <image:title>Projects - The Process Project (2018)</image:title>
<image:caption>One week | One process | One stool ‘The Process Project’ was motivated by a desire to highlight the methodology and life-cycle of a product. A collection of stools (one a week), each one made using a different technique and process. With almost three quarters of the population predicted to live in cities by 2050, this project explored how people can pay attention to a product’s life cycle as not to become disconnected from how the materials for their products are sourced. The time restriction was key as it allowed me to reverse the conventional order, which usually puts design before making and shifted the focus onto the process. Limiting myself to a week per stool required me to make rather than hesitate.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - NURDkit (2015)</image:title>
<image:caption>‘NURDkit’ is a toolkit designed to facilitate easier removal of plastic nurdles from beaches, whilst also educating and highlighting the larger issue of plastic marine waste. Nurdles are small plastic pellets and the raw material from which nearly all our plastic goods are made. Due to spills from shipping and industrial facilities, nurdles are dispersed into our environment and attract and concentrate environmental pollutants to highly toxic levels. They are often mistaken as prey and ingested by many marine animals and seabirds. The NURDkit is fabricated from recycled nurdles collected from various beaches around Scotland.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Each tool within the NURDkit has been developed to make the process of collecting nurdles faster and easier. Made from thousands of recycled nurdles, the tools act as a functional object as well as showcasing the issue in a visual display. Aimed as a science kit for schools, the NURDkit can be used for experiments and educating about the wider issue of plastic marine waste. The physical act of finding and cleaning up nurdles, engraves a stronger sense of empathy and highlights the need for the plastic industry to clean up their act!</image:caption>

<image:caption>The ‘YO YO Cello Chair’ is an adjustable chair that has been specifically designed for cellists of all ages and sizes. It dispenses with the current need for cello teachers to use a variety of different sizes of chairs and stools in order to fit differently sized cellists. The flat seat facilitates the correct playing posture without strain whilst the detachable cushion adds comfort and helps to maintain correct posture alignment. The adjustable mechanism enables the chair to accommodate cellists aged from 5 years. An integrated brass ruler enables cellists to determine their correct playing height quickly and accurately.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Seasonal Dialogues (2019)</image:title>
<image:caption>‘Seasonal Dialogues’ is part of an ongoing body of work around slow and co-design. An attempt to conjure up open dialogues that challenge and disrupt our current precarious, disconnected and unsustainable tempo. This piece is about harvesting nature’s timing. Allowing ourselves to visualise seasons of activity and seasons of rest. When looking into nature, we can see clear growth patterns. Seasons when plants and animals reserve energy and seasons when they are more active. With more people than ever living in cities and urban areas and our unhealthy demand for convenience and fast pace living, are we becoming disconnected from nature’s rhythm? Each ring represents a month and allows the owner to become the co-designer of their own unique object. A representation of their year, a reminder of nature’s timing and a visualisation of our earth’s axis and orbit around the sun.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A collection of wearable contraptions with the aim of facilitating an experience that encourages us to physically slow down, re-frame our perspective and take time to interact with a given space that concentrates and focuses our attention. <image:caption>Cone one was about directing your gaze through a jungle of lichen. A multi-sensory and microscopic experience that would introduce the viewer to this symbiotic relationship. Cone two was designed with the aim of creating a tunnel vision effect that only allowed for a small viewpoint. Using a thicker rattan and no lichen, to see if it made the experience less or more enriching. Cone three was for a shared experience with a larger viewing opening. Creating a space that allowed for an individual experience but also facilitates a shared environment and space for three people to be in close proximity.</image:caption>

In his chapter ‘The Phenomenology of Roundness’, Bachelard presents the idea that being is round and experienced through round shapes. A rotating mobile that offers an alternative way to traditional grass drying techniques. Inviting the the viewer to experience the beauty of meadow grasses.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Installations - When I Am Among the Trees (2020)</image:title>
<image:caption>When I Am Among the Trees, is an exploration into the space between human and non-human centred perspectives. A woven space from willow (sun egg) that invites interaction, fascination and healing, as a way of helping us to reorientate our thinking to one of co-existence and collaboration. This project aims to help blur the boundaries between a human and a non-human perception as a way of disrupting human-centeredness. Non-human beings are currently overlooked in the narrative around care, but what if they became inseparably intertwined? To care for something is more binding than just being concerned about it and requires active involvement. What if humans caring for non-human things became just as important as humans caring for other humans?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Installations</image:title>
<image:caption>The ‘sun egg’ becomes an invitation to stimulate active interactions and encounters with our natural environment and to emphasise the sensuous aspects and create affective moments that encourage the user to take time to understand the relations between living things in changing ecologies. By creating a site-specific installation among a diverse location in the Swedish forest, I am able to invite and present the visitor with an opportunity to take time and be within an environment that helps aid healing and restoration. Could the simplicity of inviting adults to take time to be more childlike, playful and curious, be a way of helping invoke new ways of thinking? An interaction and experience that will encourage a shift of thinking towards one that has care, co-existence and collaboration at its centre.</image:caption>

<image:title>Installations - The making of the ‘sun egg’</image:title>
<image:caption>I chose to use the traditional craft technique of willow weaving as a way of building my large self-supporting structure. To be inside a woven structure, hints at an almost architectural way of thinking – an experience rather than just seeing. By sizing up a technique that is usually associated with small-scale craft, I hoped that the scale of this object would make an initial and instant impression on the viewer. That on closer investigation of the object and material they could get an understanding of how it was made. (Inspired by Elsa Beskow’s story, ‘The Sun Egg’)</image:caption>

      <image:title>Installations - “Childish delight”</image:title>
<image:caption>The aim of this project was to evoke childish delight and invite interactions within and around the space. It was therefore really important to understand the relationship between the object and person, which is known as affordances, in order to help me provide an experience and space that would invite fascination, curiosity and healing. I designed cues and clues to help encourage interaction within the space. This included a sign with a simple illustration, willow mats and archways placed in a way that suggested to the visitor that they could lie down and enter this woven ‘sun egg’.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The intended purpose of the design is not only about the physical form of the object, but about the types of cultivated and unexpected interactions that take place because of it. Therefore the weaving and building of my installations are a key part of any project. This allows for people to meet with willow for the first, or thousandth time and invites them to have a go at working with the repetitive rhythm and flexible nature of this versatile material. Creating forms that invite intrigue, curiosity, questioning and become a marker of time and a keeper of stories.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Public installation at Eco Agroforestry Center in Linnarhult, Gothenburg, as part of a residency funded by Pronto, Göteborgs Stad. A woven space from living willow that was co-crafted with the local community. A place among the trees that invites interaction, fascination and curiosity, as a way of helping us to reorientate our thinking to one of co-existence and collaboration. Developed from the project ‘When I Am Among the Trees’ (2020).</image:caption>

This project is all about unexpected experiences and therefore the continuation and unpredictable nature of this living material will continue to be a surprise. To see how the willow grows and becomes its own entity that outgrows the use for humans and becomes a space for non-human beings…</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - about</image:title>
<image:caption>My practice is driven by a curiosity for creating spaces and sculptural forms that invite multi-sensory engagement and foster unexpected encounters with the natural environment. Working in the space between craft and design, I bring together anthropological, holistic, and ontological approaches to research, allowing each project to emerge from a close study of materials, ecologies and interconnected systems. Through this process, I develop products, installations and spatial experiences that open new ways of thinking - ones rooted in care, co-existence, and collaboration. My work seeks to gently reorient our relationship with the wider world, encouraging attentive, reciprocal and collaborative modes of being within the environments we inhabit.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Teaching - Design Methods</image:title>
<image:caption>A theoretical and practical course that aims to re-examine and re-imagine the students connection between resources, materials and products. This course provides insights into the basic knowledge of nature, resource, material, scarcity in relation to exploratory approaches to design, craft, method and materials. Investigating the power that design has to inform and inspire products/services that contribute to a circular economy. <image:title>Teaching - Cross-Border Materiality</image:title>
<image:caption>Courses that aim to provide an insight into how natural and social materiality has intrinsic value and origin beyond the power relationship (humans/resources). Exploring how we relate to materials, how we acknowledge them and how we can rediscover them in our every day surroundings. Facilitating encounters with our natural environment and emphasising the sensuous aspects. Image: Woven ‘Cone of Curiosity’ by a student at Lunnevads Folkhögskola</image:caption>

      <image:title>Teaching - slow, co and grow</image:title>
<image:caption>Using a slow design method to research, develop and create a project that explores multi-sensory experiences and challenges our perceived perceptions. Teaching courses that questions the mind and body divide, suggesting that knowledge can grow out of the interactions and observation with our surroundings.
